Sepsis Intro: Program Goals ~
•Describe the epidemiology of severe sepsis and septic shock
•Briefly discuss the pathophysiology of this complex problem
•Discuss the relevant scientific literature pertaining to the development and implementation of Early Goal Directed Therapy for severe sepsis and septic shock
•Discuss how the Sepsis Alert Protocol can be used to identify these patients before hospital arrival and result in improved outcomes.
Sepsis is a common, lethal and complex illness that is responsible for over 750,000 deaths in the United States annually. Like stroke and acute myocardial infarction, sepsis is a time-dependent emergency, and one that you can correctly identify and begin to treat prior to hospital arrival. During this presentation, we will discuss how to recognize this illness and how your actions and prehospital assessment can identify and help save these patients! (time 2 hours)
No-Transport Intro:
This presentation will discuss one of the most precarious situations in prehospital care: the no-transport. How does one master the potential pitfalls and risk associated with a patient who you have evaluated who does not want to be transported by ambulance? How can you become a master of “the art of the refusal” and document your patient interaction fairly and in a way that protects the patient, yourself and your service? Find out here!
